Letter: Many of our ruling elite seem ashamed of the country that nurtured them.

SIR - with respect, the three wise monkeys neither see, hear, or will speak of any evil that exists in their beloved EU (Craven Herald letters, January 31). This being a political system so corrupt, the last I heard ( I don't keep tabs) the accounts had not been signed off for many a year. Not to mention the inflexible Euro bankrupting Greece , with Spain and Italy not far behind, etc. It was good to be reminded of why we voted for Brexit, although perhaps a little patronising. Especially when R. Nicholson's point about the sacrifice of our people in past wars was so misunderstood. Democracy is only as good as the people it elects. It certainly didn't serve Germany well. The Germans elected Hitler (or he emerged as leader) and he was a devil. It is righteousness that exalts a nation. Many of our ruling elite seem ashamed of the country that nurtured them. They should be ashamed of themselves. It is they who are the leaders and shape or destroy the nation, a grave responsibility which they seem keen to shirk by handing it to those who have no mandate or love for our country. Don't be like Esau who sold his birthright for a bowl of pottage.
