SKIPTON dancer Emma Hopley is currently on tour with Emergence - a brand-new company formed from MA dance students from the University of Salford.

The 12 female dancers started a 12 venue tour in November in Salford, taking in Harrogate, Dundee and Truro, and on February 28 will be in Kendal, before moving on to London, Horsham, Cardiff, and finally, Hull, in March.

Led by artistic director Joss Arnott and programme leader Sarie Mairs Slee, the students perform a double bill of works created for and with them by Arnott and Phoenix Dance Theatre’s artistic director Sharon Watson, who is the company’s guest choreographer for 2018-19.

From an early age, Emma danced with the Northern Dance Centre, Skipton , finishing up as head girl. The school has a particular focus on the world of folk dance, and Emma was part of an award-winning performance group.

She worked with choreographers including Gavin Coward, Hetain Patel, Susanne Thomas and Anna Williams, and graduated from the dance centre with a first-class honours degree last year.

The Emergence Dance Company will perform at The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, on Thursday, February 28 at 8pm. Tickets £12.50, visit : breweryarts.co.uk/event/emergence-dance-company-emergence/
