A SILSDEN town councillor will contest Craven ward for Labour at the May Bradford Council elections.

David Loud, who works as a commercial flooring estimator in the construction industry, has voiced concerns about the "seemingly endless" volume of house building taking place.

"I will oppose any future major development unless it is linked to large-scale infrastructure improvements that have been identified as a pre-requisite in the past," he said.

Councillor Loud – who has lived in Silsden for over 20 years with his wife and two sons – is also pressing for a direct bus service between the town, Cross Hills and Skipton.

He added: "I am committed to ensuring that Craven’s position on the extremes of both the metropolitan area and West Yorkshire do not restrict investment into the ward."

His selection as candidate is welcomed by Keighley's Labour MP, John Grogan.

"David is already an experienced and effective town councillor," he said.

"He is active in his community and will stop at nothing to make sure resident concerns are heard."
