AN inspection by bridge engineers has revealed that urgent repairs are needed to the Niffany viaduct on the A629 at Skipton.

An issue has been identified with a surface joint and specialist contractors will be on site from 8.30am on Tuesday (February 19). It is hoped the work can be completed within a day. One lane will be closed with manually-operated two-way traffic signals in operation to keep traffic queues to a minimum.

North Yorkshire County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for highways, said: “We will be making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but the safety of the travelling public is our first priority.’’
