SIR - I would just like to make a few observations regarding the situation at Westminster.

We are fast approaching March 29, probably the most important thing that is happening to the UK in decades, and still the political parties are squabbling over the best way forward.

There is one party going hammer and tongs against another and now there are splits and breakaway elements in the parties themselves. I don't know whether these people are looking after their own, or the various parties interests but in my opinion they all should be pulling together for the people of the UK that voted them into power.

Following the financial crash of 2008, or maybe before then, Craven District Council found itself to be in a bad position. We then moved on and over the years with the Conservatives in

administration and helped by the members from all the other parties including Labour, Independents, Greens, Liberal and UKIP. Officers and staff we have turned this council round and

are in a good position for the difficult forthcoming years.

Yes we have had differences of opinion and heated debates but in the end we have worked for the people of Craven.

For the last year up until Christmas 2018 we have achieved the following, to name but a few.

Skipton flood alleviation scheme opened.

New homes for shared ownership have been built.

Craven Leisure's new gym opened.

Bereavement Services achieved Gold Standard and new cremators were installed.

Customer Services took 49,000 calls.

We made 1.4 million waste and recycling collections.

A balanced budget was set.

Our campaign cracked down on dog fouling and is still ongoing.

Town Centre canal improvements got the green light.

A new taxi licensing policy was launched, (to safeguard the people of Craven), and successfully tested in court.

We obtained £1.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund for Craven Museum.

This is a number of the things we have achieved by pulling together.

Why can't Westminster do the same ?
