BARNOLDSWICK’S community stars - including a much loved dog - were recognised at the town’s annual ‘Oscars’.

Several people including champion litter pickers, event organisers and sports people were rewarded at the Pride of Barnoldswick awards ceremony which took place at the town’s annual meeting held at the Rainhall Centre.

Organised by Barnoldswick Town Council, nominations are invited throughout the year and are presented annually in March.

This year’s awards included a posthumous one to Barnoldswick’s favourite ‘window cleaning hound’ Molly, who sadly died before last week’s ceremony.

Town council vice chairman, Cllr Tom Whipp, who presented the awards, said: “It’s a privilege to honour some of the people who contribute to our community and recognise their efforts with Pride of Barnoldswick Awards. The awards are local Oscars and those receiving them are stars.”

This year’s winners are:

Callum Hird, secretary of the Royal British Legion. For the last two years he has distributed wooden crosses to youth organisations to decorate before being placed at the war memorial.

Alyson Hames - for her work with Barnoldswick Town Football Club; Stephen (Ces) Naylor - for his work with Barnoldswick Town Football Club; Peter Naylor - Barnoldswick Town FC and with the cricket club; Harry and Toby Driver – for litter picking; Peter Arnold – for regularly cleaning up Bank Street play area; Geoff Gedling - a coach with Pendle Paddlers for 22 years; Dave Carter – invaluable member of the Bands on the Square (BOTS) team; Jodie Hoyle - BOTS; David Greaves - BOTS ; Aiden Wellock – photography and producing a calendar for Barnoldswick; David McLoughlin – retired paramedic for 28 years and 32 years in ambulance service; Glenda Bennett – retired cheerful public enquiry assistant at Barnoldswick Police Station; Keith Whipp - as originator and inspiration behind the Barlick Angels; Hope Churches Together - as the project organisers and distributors of the angels; Angel Knitters of Barnoldswick, Salterforth, Kelbrook and Earby for creating the angels; John Boothman – Barnoldswick Fell Runner for his stubbornness, stamina and persistence in completing the non stop 268 mile Spine Race and achieving 8th place.
