CHURCH volunteers donated essential products for new mums at Airedale Hospital.

Several bags of items - including baby wipes, clothes, lotion, nappies, and treats for mums such as moisturiser and shampoo - were given to the hospital.

These gifts will go into "Pride packs" that the newborn hearing team at Airedale put together for new mums who need help.

The donations came from a group based at All Saints Church, Earby.

Volunteers spokesman Vera Cocker said: “We collect for four different charities a year at our church, and try to find new causes to collect for each time.

"We saw an article about the pride packs at Airedale, and thought it would be a great cause to collect for.

“We’ve had a basket in church for three months which has filled up with items that we’re delighted to donate.

"As well as bringing nappies and wipes, some people also knitted clothes, socks and hats for new babies.”

Alison Mastrantouno, from Airedale's newborn hearing screening team, said: “We’re really grateful and would like to thank everyone at the church who donated.

“We’ve been distributing pride packs for a few years now. Colleagues generally collect and bring in items for them at their own cost.

"The packs are really important to help women with babies through their first few days, especially if they arrive at hospital with nothing.”

The packs are given discreetly to parents who are maybe unable to afford certain items, or parents whose baby arrived early before they were prepared for hospital.
