PROFESSIONAL and amateur pie-makers will be competing to see who can produce the most crumbly of crusts and the finest of fillings at the World Pie Championships in Barnoldswick on Saturday (March 16).

The town will be hosting the pie tasting extravaganza as part of its food and drink festival.

The event will also see cooking demonstrations, food themed ‘hands-on’ family activities, a food trail and a mobile farm at the Town Square based event which is being organised by Barnoldswick Town Council.

Councillor Jayne Mills, chairman of the town council, said, “The festival is a celebration of the scores of food and drink businesses we have in Barnoldswick and also highlights the market, which the town council now operates. We’ll have over two dozen food stalls at the event and three dozen food and drink businesses taking part in the food trail." Cllr Mills said this year's line up for Bands on the Square, will also be announced on Saturday. The popular annual event is due to take place over four days during the spring bank holiday weekend.

Saturday's event , which will run from 10am to 4pm, will also include live music between cooking demonstrations, children's rides and winner of the food trail will receive a family ticket to Thornton Hall Country Park.
