COLOURFUL characters from the world of children’s fiction roamed around Sutton Community Primary School this month.

There were several Harry Potters, Matildas, Mary Poppinses and BFGs as the pupils celebrated World Book Day.

The assembly included a quiz to test pupils' knowledge of books and authors, then each class spent the day completing book-related activities.

In Key Stage 1, year two paired up with year five for shared reading, while year one designed their own superhero character and Reception pupils acted out the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

In Key Stage 2, year six found the average of a range of book related data while year five watched a BBC Live Lesson which featured the authors Cressida Cowell, Rob Biddulph and Malorie Blackman.

Year four children created eye-catching personal bookmarks and year three pupils made text-based models.

School head Fiona Beetles said: “To top off an action-filled day we had open classrooms before the end of school, where parents and family members were invited to participate in whole-class shared reading sessions of our class novels.”
