CONTROVERSIAL holiday park plans for Hellifield look set to be refused by Craven planners.

The outline application for the development of a leisure centre, including swimming pool, hotel and visitor accommodation, has been recommended for refusal at a special meeting of Craven District Council at Gargrave Village Hall on Monday, March 25.

The scheme, planned for Hellifield Flashes, to the west of the village, includes up to 300 lodges, a park and ride facility, pedestrian access to Hellifield Railway Station, parking areas, and a bus and coach drop off point.

Councillors will be recommended to refuse the application by Ballan Ltd on a number of grounds, including policies in the emerging Craven Local Plan which do not support the application.

The highways authority also revised its earlier comments by raising concerns about the proposals, referring to them as 'unsustainable'.

An application for the site was first submitted towards the end of 2016.

The meeting at Gargrave Village Hall on March 25 is due to start at 2.45pm.
