FUNDRAISING for Manorlands is on the slide – and the hospice couldn’t be happier!

A zip slide is being set-up from the top of a well-known South Craven landmark.

Daredevils will don safety harnesses to climb the steps of Sutton Pinnacle, before taking the plunge to a point about 260 metres down the crag.

Organisers say the event, on the weekend of June 22 and 23, has already captured the public’s imagination.

Nearly 200 places on the Sunday sold out within a few days of entries opening.

“We have added slots on the Saturday but we suspect these will sell-out too so people interested should act quickly and sign-up soon,” said Bob Tole, treasurer of Manorlands’ Riddlesden and East Morton support group, which is organising the activity.

Sponsorship is being provided by Keighley-based M&G Stone and the Skipton Building Society.

And other businesses are being invited to get involved, and have their logos displayed on a large tower-shaped banner which will be positioned on the side of the pinnacle – also known as Lund’s Tower, or the Pepper Pot – throughout the weekend.

Manorlands Sue Ryder community fundraising manager, Andrew Wood, said the event had come about through a huge amount of goodwill.

“We have only been able to put it on thanks to the generosity of the Airey family – which has allowed us to use its Pinnacle Events venue for the weekend – and Sutton Parish Council which has given us permission to use the tower.”
