A SKIPTON Police Community Support Officer is urging people to take notice of a newly launched Facebook page set up to tackle all types of fraud.

PCSO Ruth Pearson, a fraud ambassador for North Yorkshire Police, says the idea is to raise awareness and to have one place where police can share information with communities not only about the latest scams but also give tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of fraud.

“There are so many different types of frauds such as romance, recruitment, ticketing, online banking, identity, courier and door to door,” she said.

“I have personally seen the impact that being a victim of fraud has on a person and at times it can be heart-breaking, losing life savings just by putting your trust in the wrong person. I’ve seen the intimidation tactics that some fraudsters use and it is shocking, totally unacceptable.

“I am proud to be a fraud ambassador for North Yorkshire Police and the louder we can shout about fraud and the further we can spread the message the better.” Find it on Facebook at North Yorkshire Police Fraud Awareness
