THERE is a huge growth of interest in women’s football at the moment - and here is yet more proof that Skipton - and Craven - has always been ahead of the game!
These female footballers are a team representing Skipton and Craven and they are pictured before a game at Horsforth’s Trinity and All Saints College in 1994. Once more we are indebted to Skipton’s ‘Mr Sport’ Roger Ingham, the team’s coach, pictured with the side, for the photograph. The line-up is, back from left: Debbie Biggins - later of top team Doncaster Belles and England - Lizzie Forsyth, Sara Raine, Emma Crook, Sam Spence - who played for England, at rugby! - Louisa Pickles, Jackie Beaumont and Maria Spence. Front row: Jody Bray, Debra Robinson, Lucy Davis, Laura Page, Heather Roberts. Roger recalls that Sara Raine achieved a coaching award soon afterwards and took Silsden into league football.
