TRIBUTES have been paid to the Rector of Skipton’s Holy Trinity Church, the Rev Veronica James, who is due to retire this weekend.
Rev James, who in January was made an honorary Canon of Ripon Cathedral, studied womenswear at the London College of Fashion before being ordained and during her time in Skipton has forged strong links with Craven College.
She has invited students to the church, to look at the textiles, sculptures, stained glass and architecture. Two years ago, students were inspired to create garments out of a duvet after studying stained glass windows.
Joan Murray, textiles and fashion tutor, said:“The link with Holy Trinity Church, with Veronica and the community has been invaluable for the students, providing a beautiful, venue to visit and display work within and to know that Veronica is very knowledgeable about their chosen career path in design and the arts.”
The Rev James will carry out her last service, town communion at 9.45 am on Sunday, following Holy Communion at 8am. A display of work by the students will be on show at the church until Monday, April 29.
