PLANS to build a single, detached dwelling at a former coal yard next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Bradley and close to a ‘medieval field’ have been recommended for approval.

The two storey home, with off-street parking, if approved, will be built close to Bradley swing bridge, with part of the garden designated by the Environment Agency as having a high risk of flooding.

But Bradley Parish Council says the site is next to an historic medieval field and turning into the site will require a 360 degree, difficult turn. It also raises concerns about future mooring of canal boats next to the access track to the house, that it would ‘destroy a pleasant walk’ along the canal side, and would also interfere with wildlife migration and habitats.

The application is recommended for approval at Tuesday’s (May 7) meeting of Craven District Council’s Planning Committee.
