SCINTILLATING sunshine, brilliant bric-a-brac, tempting tombola, beautiful burgers, all day car wash, an exciting Easter Egg Hunt were all found on Easter Monday in Bentham at the parish church.

There was an eco-table with information leaflets from the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and Growing With Grace, plus Andy Ive’s plastic bottle project. The idea of this is to fill in one litre bottles with plastic bags and wrappings, to reduce the amount of plastics going into landfill or the sea.

People were also invited to see how many different wildflowers they could find in the churchyard. Doris Cairns, an amateur botanist who has done or is doing studies of other churchyards in Ingleton and Giggleswick, found more than 30. These included some only showing leaves and not in flower.

Refreshments, cream teas, barbecue sausages and burgers were available all day. Many people put in a lot of time and effort to make this a success.

Lisa and Graham Almond did the main organising and over £800 was raised which will boost the funds for the extension and improvements to the parish church. These will include making space for a meeting room and Sunday School where the old organ is and improving the kitchen facilities and providing a much needed toilet.
