THE owners of a barn in Kettlewell have lodged an appeal against refusal of permission to allow it to be converted into a one-bedroom local occupancy house or holiday let.

The application for Cam Cottage Barn, in Sally Lane, Kettlewell, was turned down at a Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority planning meeting in July last year after it had been recommended for approval by officers.

The committee was told seven letters of objection had been received. These detailed lack of parking, an impact on the development and amenity of nearby residents, no external space attached to the barn, the detriment to the historic significance of the barn, questions relating to drainage and a nearby tree believed to be protected with a preservation order.

The committee listed the reasons for refusal as failing to provide sufficient amenity space necessary to ensure an adequate level of amenity for future occupants, over-development of the site and lack of off-street parking which would harm safety in the area and detract from the amenity of residents by compromising their ability to park close to their homes.

The appeal, numbered APP/C9499/W/19/3225263, on behalf of Dr and Mrs Sugarman, will be determined through written representation to be received by the inspectorate by May 31.

Copies of the appeal documents can be seen at the Yorkshire Dales National Park offices by prior appointment.
