A 50 YEAR old former head chef stole meat and cheese to the value of £127 from a Co-op branch in Cross Hills, heard Skipton Magistrates Court.
Guy Hook, of Church Street, Keighley, paid two visits to the service station store in Skipton Road, on two separate days and on both occasions was filmed on the store’s CCTV cameras, the court heard on Friday.
On December 19, he took packs of steak and bacon, to the value of £50 and put it in his holdall before leaving the store without paying, and two days after Christmas, he returned to take six packs of steak, nine packs of cheese, and a jar of coffee, together worth £77.
Hook, who admitted two charges of theft, had spent time in prison for similar offences, the court was told.
In mitigation, the court heard that Hook had been a head chef in three different countries, but had come under the influence of drugs. He was now in receipt of benefits, and in secure accommodation. Magistrates gave him a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay compensation of £127, costs of £85 and £20 surcharge.
