SIR - Following the Tour de Yorkshire you’d be forgiven for thinking Yorkshire’s affair with cycling was over for another year. Yet in 2019, we also have the UCI Road World Championships coming to the UK this September - for the first time in over 30 years - and glorious Yorkshire will provide the backdrop.

For the UCI Championships, the stakes will be even higher with the world’s cyclists coming to the region for eight days of international competition. At the heart of it all is a Yorkshire charity that wants to use the event to make a huge difference to healthcare.

Leeds Cares is the charity partner of Leeds Teaching Hospitals and, this September, is also the official fundraising partner of the UCI Road World Championships. Our mission is to bring caring people together to inspire change; supporting exceptional healthcare and the best possible health and wellbeing for our communities. We’re hoping fundraising income from the event will fund valuable health and wellbeing projects right here in Yorkshire - helping us deliver exceptional healthcare in our hospitals but also helping people stay healthy in their local communities.

Leeds Cares is looking for around 250 volunteers to join Team Leeds Cares during the championships to help us in their local community - both individuals and groups.

If you’d like to be part of this amazing cycling event you’ll be helping to support the NHS services that provide care for you and your family, right here in Yorkshire.
