CROSSHILLS Social Club celebrated its 100th anniversary this month with a night of entertainment from the group Cooler King and singer Simon Whiteley.

Members enjoyed drinks at the one-off price of £1 each, while Barry Reay was presented with a certificate and badge to mark his 40 years’ service.

Barry joined the committee by accident after popping in with the CIU Winners Bowling Trophy or, and soon afterwards he took over an official post from Leonard Bibby who had suffered a stroke.

Social club president Robert Riley handed Barry his certificate and badge, and Anita Robertson thanked him for all his hard work and dedication to the club.

She said she was certain that without Barry’s input, loyalty and dedication to the club, it would have shut down by now due to the current economic climate.
