SHEEP being herded to Skipton’s old market along the High Street must have been an occasional if increasingly rare sight during the last century - and here we see well-known local farmer John Pringle leading his animals along the road in the mid- 1970s. The picture was submitted by regular contributor Linda Windle, Mr Pringle’s daughter, who tell us: “My brother Goose Pringle says he thinks it was the last time sheep were herded through town to the old auction mart.
“ Our brother Richard is following them on the left and another well- known farmer, Billy Turner, is bringing up the rear. Me or Goose must be taking the photo. I seem to remember that it was meant to be done very early in the morning to avoid traffic - but as you can see, that didn’t happen and we probably caused chaos!”
