AN open event is being staged to showcase the range of apprenticeships on offer in the district.

Anyone leaving school or college this summer is encouraged to attend to learn more about the opportunities available.

The event is being hosted by City Training Services in Bradford, one of the biggest providers of apprenticeships for 16-to-18-year-olds in the Leeds City Region – which includes Keighley.

It works with employers including the NHS, Bradford Council and social housing group Incommunities.

A spokesman said: "Expert staff will be on hand to give information, advice and guidance on the wide range of apprenticeships and traineeships on offer across Yorkshire and beyond.

"There will also be workshops on CV writing and help with interview techniques.

"Visitors will be able to see a list of current full and part-time vacancies and applications can be made on the day in a variety of sectors including accountancy, business, construction, dental nursing, plumbing, hairdressing, motor vehicle engineering and digital marketing.

"Apprenticeships allow people to get qualified and paid while gaining hands-on work experience.

"Anyone aged 16 or above can apply, so it is a great option for year 11 students."

The open day takes place at the City Training Services offices in Chapel Street, Little Germany, on Saturday, June 1, from 11am to 2pm.

The organisation, part of Bradford College, has been delivering apprenticeships for over 30 years.

During that time it has supported thousands of young people who have gone on to have successful careers.

Its success stories include Edward Jackson, a plumber who works for H2K Plumbing and Heating Services Ltd in Skipton, who earlier this year reached the final of the HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year competition.

In March, City Training Services was visited during National Apprenticeship Week by Government minister Anne Milton, who met staff, apprentices and employers.
