FILM fans are in for a treat this weekend with a showing of Sally Potter’s hysterical comedy The Party at Skipton’s Plaza Cinema.

Sunday’s evening presentation will be the last of the current season from Skipton Film Club, which will break for the summer and come back in September.

And, because it is the end of the season, the first 40 people through the door will get a free cup cake, and in addition to the main film, there will be a couple of ‘shorts’ both embracing the party spirit and including ‘Dinner for One’ staring Freddie Frinton.

The Party takes place on one evening in Hampstead when a politician – played by Kristin Scott Thomas – is celebrating her promotion to the shadow cabinet.

Her husband is played by Timothy Spall and the cast also includes the late Bruno Ganz in his last performance.

The comedy – though hilarious - is tinged with satire as bombshell follows bombshell from the ensemble cast.

The Party, certificate 15, shows on Sunday (June 2) at The Plaza at 5.15pm. Open to members and non members.
