BRADFORD Premier League top-flight leaders Woodlands recorded their fifth successive win when they cruised to a seven-wicket triumph at Lightcliffe.

The key to their latest success was the decision of skipper Cieran Garner to turn to spinners Chris Brice and Kez Ahmed after just three overs.

Both bowlers picked up two quick wickets as the home side were reduced to 9-4 and they continued their good work as Lightcliffe were bowled out for 60 to justify Garner’s decision to ask them to bat first.

Off spinner Ahmed took 6-34 and Brice 3-23 as only Ibrar Ahmed (21) threatened to challenge their dominance.

Lightcliffe’s dismal afternoon was made worse when wins for Undercliffe and Townville dropped them into the bottom two.

Newly-promoted Undercliffe secured their second victory of the weekend when they defeated Cleckheaton by 36 runs.

After rain reduced the match to a 33 overs per side contest, Undercliffe made 196-5. Michael Kelsey hit an unbeaten 55 and new signing Mark Watt 41 as they shared a crucial fourth-wicket stand of 80.

Cleckheaton’s inconsistent form surfaced again as they were dismissed for 160. Elliot Lee top scored with 35 as Zeeshan Qasim (3-38) helped Undercliffe secure 18 valuable points.

Townville climbed out of the bottom two after recording a 64-run win over rock-bottom Methley.

The Townville innings looked to be losing its way as they lost five wickets for 23 runs to slip to 97-6. Among those dismissed was Harry Warwick (38).

Methley’s hopes of wrapping up the Townville innings quickly were stymied by Conor Harvey (51) and Harry Clewett (32) who helped their side to make 192. Marcus Walmsley (3-16) and Connor Hyde (3-47) were Methley’s best bowlers.

Methley, who were without their Yorkshire duo of Jarred Warner and Matthew Waite, struggled with the bat. Adam Patel (53) was the notable exception as they were bowled out for 128. Imran Rafique (4-26) and Jack Hughes (3-24) helped secure Townville’s second win of the season.

Yorkshire all-rounder Jordan Thompson produced a fine all-round performance as Pudsey St Lawrence beat New Farnley by 14 runs in a 38-over contest.

Thompson helped rescue his side from 29-3 in a fourth-wicket stand of 103 with fellow youngster Harry Cullingford (44).

Thompson went on to make 82 and with James Smith hitting an unbeaten 44, St Lawrence posted a total of 207-5.

Skipper Lee Goddard led the New Farnley reply with a breezy 73 before becoming a victim of the impressive Thompson (4-23). Alex Lilley’s brisk 35 was not sufficient as New Farnley finished on 193-9.

Pudsey St Lawrence share second place on 80 points – 21 behind Woodlands – with Hanging Heaton who had a comfortable seven-wicket win at Wrenthorpe.

Joe Fraser (52) and Nick Connolly (38) shared a second-wicket stand of 101 before Callum Geldart (60no) and Ben Kohler-Cadmore (41no) added an unbroken 98 from 92 balls for the fourth-wicket to take their side past Wrenthorpe’s 210-9.

Openers Irfan Amjad (43) and Jordan Sleightholme (35) had given their side a solid start when Wrenthorpe batted first, but only Will Bates (39) of the later batsmen prospered as Tom Chippendale (4-51) and David Stiff (3-57) got to work.

Farsley are up to fourth place after defeating Bradford & Bingley by 13 runs to record their third straight win.

Yorkshire spinner James Logan is certainly determined to make up for lost time. After returning from injury with 6-26 in Saturday’s three-wicket victory over Pudsey St Lawrence, Logan followed up with 6-48 as Bradford & Bingley were restricted to 158-7 in reply to Farsley’s 171-4. Opener Dan Revis top scored with 68.

The Farsley innings was dominated by a second-wicket stand of 127 between opener Ben Morley (88) and former Bradford & Bingley batsman Ryan Cooper (46). Jack Hartley (3-39) was the pick of the Wagon Lane bowlers.
