WAYS of managing tinnitus and details of the support available will be outlined at a meeting next week.

David Steele, from the British Tinnitus Association, is the speaker at a meeting of the Keighley support group.

"Tinnitus can be an isolating condition and we're keen to spread the word that there are management techniques which can help a person lead the best life possible – and reduce the burden of living with the condition," he said.

Tinnitus is defined as the experience of sounds with no external source – most commonly a ringing or buzzing, but sometimes a whooshing, clicking or even music sound.

In around ten per cent of cases, the condition has a significant impact on the person's quality of life and can be linked to stress, anxiety and sometimes depression.

The meeting takes place in the Education Centre at Airedale Hospital on Thursday (June 6), between 3pm and 4.30pm.
