A TOTAL of 961 spring lambs were put forward at Skipton Auction Mart on Monday with a mixed show for quality.

Top price per head was £124 from J Barnes Farming, of Sawley, with 52kgs at 238.5p/kg, selling to Kendalls Farm Butchers, in Harrogate and Pateley Bridge.

Next was John Nutter, from Hurst Green, who made £120 with 54kg Continentals, selling to L Wood & Son, of Scammonden.

Tim Robinson, of Longridge, made £119.50 with 49kg Texel Beltex (243.9p). Bob Lancaster, of West Marton, sold 47kg Texel Beltex for £119 per head; these were also top price per kilo at 253.9p.

B Spensley Ltd, of Thorlby, made £118 with 52kg, whilst TH Mellin, of Black Lane Ends, made £117 of 52kg.

Richard Towell, of Glusburn, got up to £116 for heavy Texels, and S SPensley & Co, of Gargrave made £115 for 52kg Texels.

The nice skinned lambs saw the over 46kg range average 220p.

The handyweight category saw better skinned types selling for 220p to 240p, first cross lambs 205p to 215p depending on quality, with a couple of large runs of un-castrated commercial types under £2.

Hoggs were a sharp trade on the day, topping off with £113, £109 and £100.

Horned and Hill ewes went for £50 to £60, topped by £60.50 for Richard Caton, of Stainforth, with Hill Ewes averaging £56.45. Nice selling ¾ type Texels were going for either side of £100.

A total of 126 breeding sheep were put forward comprising 56 sheep with 70 lambs at foot. Continental sheep with lambs at foot, with ewes with singles sold to £155 and twins up to £185. Hoggs with lambs went to £155 twice.
