GIGGLESWICK born film maker Thomas Lewton will take part in a question and answer session as part of Settle Stories Lazy Afternoon Film Club on June 30.

The arts charity will be screening Lewton’s Africa: Changing the News Narrative, a series of short documentary films which challenge perceptions of the world’s second largest continent.

Lewton attended Settle College before going on to become a professional filmmaker. He has travelled the globe and is currently living in Uganda.

Over recent years he has produced, directed and edited short films for BBC Travel, Thomson Reuters Foundation and Le Monde Afrique. In 2017 he was jointly awarded a grant for the Big Men Project which explores gender equality and masculinity in East Africa.

Sita Brand, artistic director at Settle Stories, said:“We’re so excited to screen local lad Thomas Lewton’s presentation of film shorts: Storytelling in

Africa, Changing the News Narrative at The Joinery. It’s great to screen films that celebrate and teach us about other cultures. We love inviting local talent back to Settle and I’m looking forward to hearing what inspires him as a filmmaker in the Q & A session.”

The Lazy Sunday Afternoon Film Club takes place on the last Sunday of every month at The Joinery, behind the Naked Man Cafe, Settle. The film starts at 3pm and will be followed by the question and answer session. Tickets £5, including tea or coffee. The film is suitable for 16 year olds and above.
