OWNERS of Craven’s fastest terriers will be making their way to Appletreewick on Sunday (June 23) for the annual terrier racing championships.
Held in the field opposite the Craven Arms Pub, thanks to Mr and Mrs Patrick Walker, terriers will be raced out of traps - similar to horse racing - and will chase a lure which will be pulled across the field, similar to greyhound racing.
David Aynesworth, landlord of The Craven Arms, said the excitement and enthusiasm of both the dogs and their owners was a great spectacle. He added the competition, concluding with a grand final, was wide open this year, following the death of racing terrier, Rocky.
Entry per terrier is £1 per race and all proceeds will go to Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. It will start at 2.30pm and be followed by a race for all breeds of dog.
