DESPITE heavy rain, hundreds of children and their families enjoyed hands-on activities and entertainment in Barnoldswick’s ‘pocket park’ at the weekend.
Barnoldswick in Bloom partnered with volunteers from the town council to stage the annual event in the park, which is cared for by the volunteer Valley Gardens Working Group.
Barnoldswick Brass Band provided the soundtrack for the afternoon, with entertainment also including a storyteller, magician, balloon modeller and Gill’s mobile farm.
Hands-on activities included community hanging basket planting, kite making and constructing miniature windmills, and a duck race.
A nature trail treasure-hunt led families around the park with those taking part being rewarded with ‘gold coins’, while the bloom team also had a plant stall and a display of the group’s work. The event raised £750 for Barnoldswick in Bloom.
Bloom volunteers are preparing for the arrival of Britain in Bloom judges on July 4. Anyone able to help should contact the group via its Facebook page.
