AMATEUR botanist, Dr Anne Readshaw, will lead a free guided walk on behalf of Friends of the Dales on Saturday (June 29).
The around seven mile walk will start from the pay and display car park at Buckden at 11am. It is also timed to connect with the Dalesbus service 72 from Skipton via Grassington.
The walk follows a section of the Dales Way along the River Wharfe to Hubberholme, described by JB Priestley as the ‘smallest, pleasantest place in the world’. His ashes are buried in the churchyard, and inside the church itself is a rare, medieval rood screen and pews hand-made by ‘Mousie Thomson’ of Kilburn. On the way to Yockenthwaite the walk will pass through riverside hay meadows in the peak of their summer glory before continuing to the woods and limestone pastures to Cray, before gently descending back to Buckden. Well behaved dogs are welcome, walkers should take a picnic lunch. For bus times, visit: dalesbus.org.uk
