EASTBURN Primary School has received a ‘good’ rating in all areas by Ofsted.

Inspectors said there had been significant improvement in the school, last recorded two years ago as ‘requiring improvement’, noting amongst its strengths the high expectations and clear vision of its headteacher, Jo Waterhouse, in post since September last year, and the leadership team.

Other strengths noted in the report are that pupils are happy and well behaved, a result of the quality of relationships between teachers and children; they have ‘exceptionally positive attitudes’ to learning, and they are resilient, work collaboratively, and relish challenge.

The level of care and consideration for pupils’ safety is ‘superb, while vulnerable children, including those with special educational needs and, or, disabilities are supported effectively.

Parents and carers are very positive, and agree that their children receive a good standard of education and are well cared for, while in the early years, children enjoy a happy and successful start to school.

Mrs Waterhouse, headteacher of Eastburn Junior and Infant School, which has 206 children on its roll, said: “Everyone in school is delighted that the inspection team has recognised the fantastic progress which has been made since our last inspection and confirmed the school’s own judgement of ‘good’ in all areas. This has been the result of a lot of hard work on behalf of our staff and governors, and overwhelming support from our parents.

“We are excited about the future and motivated to build on our progress so far in order to give the pupils of Eastburn the best possible education and opportunities.”

Councillor Imran Khan, Bradford Council's portfolio holder for education, employment and skills, said: “It’s good news that Eastburn Junior and Infant School has secured a ‘good’ outcome from being judged as ‘requiring Improvement’ two years ago. The council has confidence in the leadership of the school to build on this success. The trend of recent Ofsted inspections shows that more schools in our district are making positive progress on their improvement journeys.”
