AN annual run in aid of Manorlands is on course to be a summer sizzler in the fundraising stakes.

Nearly 750 runners took part in the Solstice Saunter, around the Bolton Abbey estate.

And although proceeds from Friday’s event – which sold out weeks ago – are still to be totted up, it is set to be a record breaker.

“It was a brilliant evening,” said Molly Ralphson, a community fundraiser at the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

“The weather was perfect and Bolton Abbey is just such a wonderful setting.

“People of all ages take part and there’s always a great atmosphere.”

Participants covered a five-mile route, mostly on paths and trails.

Everyone who took part received a bespoke medal designed by the Airedale Dodgers Running Club, which organised the event.

There was also a bar, coffees and ice creams.

Kendal-based Pete Bland Sports donated prizes and was selling running gear.

Sponsor was JB Springs, of Skipton.

“The saunter is now in its fourth year and it has continued to grow in popularity,” added Molly.

“We’ve already got entries coming in for next year.

“I’d like to say a big thank-you to the Airedale Dodgers for organising the event, the Bolton Abbey estate for hosting it, JB Springs and everybody who gave their support.”

First to complete the course was Will Kerr, in 31 minutes.

Helen Staff was the first woman home, in 37:12.
