HOME-shopping giant Damart – whose warehousing facility is at Steeton – has given a £5,000 boost to The Silver Line.

The cash will help fund the charity's free, confidential helpline for older people, aimed at combating isolation and loneliness.

Damart has made the donation through its charitable foundation, On Senior's Side.

Jo Phipps, the company's colleague engagement advisor, said: "As a business we’re passionate about supporting seniors and so we’re delighted to announce the donation to The Silver Line.

"We have partnered with the charity for the past few years and witnessed the vital work it does to help tackle loneliness with older people, an issue that really resonates with our core customer base."

Nina Gopal, director of income with The Silver Line, said the charity was "thrilled" with the donation.

She added: "Our call volumes are increasing by ten per cent each month, reflecting how well our charity is regarded and valued by older people.

"We rely entirely on donations to ensure that calls made to us are answered, and so we are really thankful to Damart’s On Senior’s Side foundation."
