POET Roger McGough is to give a reading of his works in Grassington later this month at an event organised by the The Upper Wharfedale Arts and Literature Society.

One of Britain’s best loved poets, McGough,

was a member of 60’s trio The Scaffold, and is now the author of more than 70 books of verse and editor of numerous anthologies.

He is also the host of BBC Radio 4's‘Poetry Please’.

He will be reading from 'joinedupwriting', a new collection of his work published earlier this year.

Its subject matter ranges from forgotten friendships and the idiosyncrasies of family life to the trauma of war and contemporary global politics, and with the poet's signature wit, irreverence and vivacity.

Mike Stephenson, chairman of Upper Wharfedale Arts and Literature Society, said: “We are thrilled that Roger has agreed to appear in such an intimate space where the audience will enjoy the kind of close-up experience that larger venues can’t provide.”

The reading will take place on Saturday, July 27 at 7.30pm at The Octagon Theatre, Grassington. Tickets at £17.50 available by phone,
