A FAMILY run construction company with its roots in Carleton is celebrating after picking up a number of awards.

R N Wooler and Co Ltd’s Higher Raikes development, on the outskirts of Skipton, was recently named ‘best new housing development’ at the North and East Yorkshire regional heats of the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards, held at The Principal Hotel, York. It means the company could go forward to the finals, due to be held towards the end of the year.

The Higher Raikes includes 48 natural stone, homes located on the rural edge of Skipton, at the ‘gateway to the Dales’.

Phases one and two of the development are now occupied with phase three recently being launched to market for reservation

The family business was founded in 1985 by Managing Director, Norman Wooler. Since then, the company has grown steadily and sustainably delivering projects from heritage and conservation works to state of the art buildings for the future.

Over the last 30 years, R N Wooler has become a multi-million pound business with a directly employed workforce of skilled, multi-disciplinary staff of almost 300.

The company was also named both ‘SME Business of the Year’ and ‘Overall Business of the Year’ at the recent, this year’s Keighley and Airedale Business Awards.

The event was held at the Victoria Hall in Keighley and local businesses were recognised for their achievements over the past year. Compere, Harry Gration, journalist and BBC presenter, described the evening as “one of the very best awards events and a privilege to cover”.

Andrew Wooler, Company Director, said that R N Wooler was honoured to receive such accolade and recognition from the area’s business community.

The company has also recently undertaken a building project with a difference in the construction of a brand new website: rnwooler.co.uk, show casing their portfolio of construction projects.

A spokesman said: “R N Wooler are proud of these recent achievements and plan to go on developing the business while continuing to practice with the fundamental ethos of quality, value and complete client satisfaction.”
