SETTLE Parish Church is to host a special event on Saturday 20 July.

Rachel Bearpark, daughter of John and Dorothy Bearpark of Settle, and her daughter Caitlin, are embarking on a special challenge in order to raise funds for the Sheffield Children’s Children’s Hospital Charity, where Caitlin works as a fund-raiser.

In September they will be members of a team of 27 climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, is 19,300 feet high.

The walk takes eight days, and will involve trekking through forest, crossing brush land, and scrambling up steep mountain paths.

The charity has three major projects at present – a new Oncology ward, the refurbishment of the A&E department, and the building of a helipad on the hospital roof.

The hospital is a very busy regional unit, and takes sick children from all over the country who require treatment from their specialist clinicians.

The charity works hard to improve the environment for the children and their families, to make their stay in the hospital as comfortable as possible.

The event at the parish church is a coffee morning, lunches and stalls to raise money towards the challenge.
