SKIPTON man Ken Oxley received a standing ovation at the Ermysted’s annual Speech Day ceremony, in recognition of his contribution to the school over the last seven decades.
Mr Oxley, who turns 80 in September, first arrived at the school as a pupil in 1950 and for the last 20 years has been going in almost daily through his roles with the governing body, Old Boys’ Society and the school’s charitable Foundation Trust.
Ermysted’s headmaster Michael Evans praised Ken’s ‘tireless work’.
The annual Speech Day was the first to be presided over by new Chairman of the Governors, Chris Worts, who is coming to the end of his first year in the role.
Prizes for achievement across the junior, middle and upper schools were presented by John Wrathmell, a former pupil and head boy. Mr Wrathmell grew up in Carleton, left school in 1996 and now works for the Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham.
