A YEAR 7 pupil at a Stockton school had to be restrained by the head teacher after threatening another child with a small blade.

A spokesperson for Ian Ramsey Church of England Academy confirmed that police had been called after the pupil used the blade from a pencil sharpener to make the threat on the school field.

He said: β€œOn the final day of the summer term there was an incident on the sports field involving two year 7 boys that necessitated one of the boys having to be immediately restrained by the head teacher Mr Brian Janes in order to ensure pupil safety.

"The boy was restrained using the prescribed method that Mr Janes was trained to use.

"We can confirm that the incident involved one boy threatening another with a small pencil sharpener blade which was quickly dealt with.

"The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.

"We can also confirm that the matter has been referred to the Police for them to decide if any further legal action needs to be taken.

"We are committed to making school a safe place for all pupils and staff and we will always deal with all incidents of a threatening nature seriously and with appropriate consequences.”
