A GARGRAVE based business is hoping the success of the England Cricket team will mean others joining it in supporting the sport at grass roots level.

Carrs Windows has sponsored Skipton Juniors Cricket Team for three years.

The team, which has its own club on Carleton New Road, also enjoys the sponsorship of Mastabs, Dalesway Construction, Dragons Den, Trius Solutions, MC Sports and Merrit and Fryers, but it could always do with more.

Marc Carr, 33, director of Carrs Windows, said he decided to support the cricket juniors three years ago after being approached by the club.

The juniors, or Skipton Scorpions, are coached by five ECB Level 2 coaches and play in a range of tournaments throughout the season.

“The success of England in the cricket world cup shows how important it is that grass-roots clubs get the support they need," he said.

"The more we invest in young people training in and enjoying sport, the more success our teams will see in the future.

“Sponsoring the team is not just a good way of giving back to the area but it enables us to reach out to more people and let them know about our products and services.”

Marc launched the business in 2010. After years of saving for a house deposit with his partner, he convinced her to instead put the money into machinery he needed to make bespoke timber windows and doors.

He now manages a team of ten, two workshops, a large office and a show area at Asquith Business Park in Gargrave.

“Sponsorship from local businesses is vital to our club” said Damian Smith, Treasurer at Skipton Cricket Club. “It helps pay for kit, equipment and general facilities so we can give our young players the best experience possible.”

Co-Director of Carrs Windows Ltd, Leigh Carr said “Visiting the club on Friday evenings and seeing the amount of families enjoying sport together is heart-warming. On one visit we even met a team from Beijing who were travelling the country visiting different clubs.”
