AN event in Skipton to raise awareness of male suicide was a huge success.
The five-a-side football tournament and family fun day was well attended.
And it raised £700 for the charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), which strives to combat male suicide – the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK.
Amy Short staged the event on the first anniversary of the death of her uncle, Francis Franey.
There was also a collection bucket, which raised £300 for Mr Franey’s young son.
“I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback about the day,” said Amy.
“The venue told me there were a lot of people coming in and raving about it.
“I feel extremely proud and honoured.”
The football tournament took place on the all-weather pitch at Sandylands sports centre.
It involved teams of both girls and boys and mixed.
The fun day also included food, live music, a bouncy castle, stalls and raffles.
Amy – from Keighley – said she would be continuing with the campaign, which she has named #InMemoryOfFrancis, to raise awareness and money to help prevent suicide.
CALM offers support to the bereaved and runs a free, confidential helpline and webchat. Visit thecalmzone.net.
