CITIZENS Advice Craven has issued advice to holidaymakers as they prepare to set off on their summer holidays.

The office says August usually sees a surge in people with issues including flight delays, cancellations and delayed, and lost luggage.

And, it has put out a number of top tips, available on its website, aimed at helping people ensure their breaks run more smoothly.

They include how to claim compensation if your flight is delayed or cancelled, and what you can do if you arrive at the airport to find there is a strike, or your airline has suddenly gone out of business.

There is also advice on what to do if your luggage has gone missing, or been delayed, and how to claim compensation in the short term to cover essential items, such as toiletries.

Edward Pickering, chief officer of Citizens Advice Craven and Harrogate districts, said: “Flight problems can be very frustrating, especially at this time of year. As well as being inconvenient, issues like delays, cancellations, and lost luggage can be costly.

“Knowing your rights, booking ATOL-protected flights, and taking out comprehensive travel insurance will protect your holiday plans before you fly. We hope that with these top tips, people will enjoy a stress-free journey, from Craven to wherever they’re travelling to.”
