A JAZZ quartet which played at the Friends Meeting House, in Airton, donated the proceeds of their recent musical recital to the Friends group and Kirkby Malham Parish Church.

The music was provided by vibraphonist Robert Carson, saxophonist Mark Higgins, his brother John on piano and John Moreman on bass.

A packed house was wowed by fizzing renditions of standards from across the repertoire including some astounding solos.

The group was thanked afterwards for generously donating the proceeds, totalling more than £300, and taken as a retiring collection from the audience.

The next event at the Meeting House is a lunchtime recital by the excellent Vacation Chamber Orchestras summer school, at 1.30 on Sunday, August 25. Entrance is free with donations divided between VaCO and Airton Friends Meeting. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy in the grounds before the performance, weather permitting.
