WITH reference to a fire incident at Sutton Court, Sutton-in-Craven, on August 4, on behalf of the residents at Sutton Court we wish to express our grateful thanks and appreciation for the help and care we received from the nurses and staff from Orchard Care Homes (our next-door neighbours) and our adjacent Sutton Cricket Club staff.

The staff from the care home, having heard the fire alarm, suddenly and unexpectedly, appeared on the scene and helped our residents to evacuate from our three-storey building quickly and safely whilst the firemen dealt with this dangerous situation! Our lift was on fire and the care home staff provided a number of wheelchairs and helped several disabled residents to get down our three flights of stairs, which would have been almost impossible without their assistance.

The cricket club then kindly welcomed our evacuated residents into the clubhouse and provided them with teas and coffees. The care home staff also made sandwiches and buttered scones for them.

Finally, the highly skilled firefighters were very professional and also showed such care and consideration to all our residents during this highly stressful time.

This wonderful care and help was amazing and very much appreciated. It shows how so many people are caring, kind and willing to help in this type of crisis, contrary to all the trouble and aggression that exists in many parts of the world.
