A FATHER and son are part way through a walk of the entire length of the 124 mile Leeds and Liverpool Canal to raise money for Skipton based The Principle Trust children’s charity.

Matt and Simon Thomas, of Otley, set off from Liverpool on Monday, and hope to reach Leeds at around 4pm on Saturday.

Simon, part of the Business Network Ilkley group, and his son, Matt, started walking together to improve their own physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Their initial target of raising £1,000 for the charity has already been smashed, and they are on target to raise more than £2,000.

Louise Rhodes from The Principle Trust said “Without supporters such as Simon and Matt we could not continue to do what we do. We thank them both for taking on this challenge and keep our fingers crossed for good weather for them.”

The Principle Trust charity supports underprivileged, disadvantaged and disabled children from across Yorkshire by providing the children and their families with free respite breaks and holidays at its holiday homes in Blackpool or near Gisburn. It is referred children by local authorities and charities such as Martin House Hospice.
