AN AWARD-winning couple are again sharing the director’s chair for a play at Keighley Playhouse.
Mike and Debbie Ellison swept the boards at the Wharfedale Festival of Theatre awards evening earlier this year for their successful production Saving Jason.
The husband-and-wife team are back in Keighley next month to open the new season at the Devonshire Street theatre.
Spirit Level, written by Pam Valentine, is described as a hilarious comedy that will be presented from September 2-7.
Following curtain-up at 7.30pm the play will quickly introduce the audience to ghostly goings-on, providing laughs and opportunities transparent enough to see through.
Jack and his wife Susie haunt the cottage they once owned, and apart from scaring away any would-be tenants they soon realise that life as a ghost can be very boring.
That is, until the aspiring crime-writer Simon and his pregnant wife Flic take up residence. This
Christmas brings a snow storm and a baby, and Flic’s monstrous mother who doesn’t think that Simon is worthy of her daughter and makes no bones about voicing her disapproval.
A Keighley Playhouse spokesman said: “Add a harassed guardian angel that’s a bit like Mary Poppins only more officious, and things start to become very interesting.
“Blend in a cocktail of comedy, ghosts, memories, love, fear and faith with questions about life, relationships, marriage and death then you have the perfect entertaining evening to raise the spirits, at this gem of a theatre.
“It’s not exactly a battle between good and evil, but points are made about living vicariously, for both the quick and the dead, snobbery and selfishness.
“Under the directorship of Mike and Debbie Ellison, it’s a kind of Heaven Can Wait meets It’s A Wonderful Life!”
