SKIPTON Girls’ High School is celebrating an 'exceptional' set of GCSE results.

Overall, says the school, the 116 Year 11 students achieved an 'incredible' 467 grades at the highest eight or nine.

Some 49 students gained five or more grades at eight or nine, and 70 per cent of students achieved five or more grade nine to sevens.

The school says it continues to buck the national trend of declining uptake of languages at GCSE with 91 per cent of students achieving the English Baccalaureate, which includes at least one GCSE language.

Head of Academy, Mark Turner, said: “I was delighted to see so many happy faces when the students were opening their envelopes this morning. Our Year 11 students have achieved fantastic results and this reflects the commitment of students, parents and teachers over their five years with us. We look forward to welcoming many of the students back to the school as they begin their A-Level studies with us in September."

Jess Holdworth, Assistant Headteacher for Key Stage 4, who worked closely with the year group in the run up to their examinations said: “I am proud of all of the achievements of this year group. They worked so hard to be the best they can be. They are a magnificent group of young people who have demonstrated such a strong sense of community in supporting each other during Year 11."

Individual student successes include: Cadence Sessions, who achieve nine grade nines, two grade eights and an A^ (A* distinction) in Further Maths.

Molly Baxter, who achieved nine grade nines and two grade eights; Ruby Firth, nine grade nines and two grade eights; Joy Sneha, nine grade nines and two grade eights;
