WORK is being carried out on a £1.3 million improvement scheme at South Craven School in Cross Hills.

Extensive sections of the roof are being replaced and fire safety provision upgraded.

Construction company Harris CM is carrying out the work, with most of the 12-week programme scheduled to coincide with the school’s summer holiday period.

Jason Adlam, the firm’s chief executive officer, said: “This work will significantly improve the fabric of the main school building as well as ensure its fire safety systems meet the highest standards possible.

“Securing the contract is testimony to our ability to provide a competitively-priced service whilst maintaining a safe working environment in a potentially-hazardous school environment.”

The project is welcomed by Kika Masters, premises manager at South Craven School, who said: “This is a major scheme that will future-proof our fire safety system and ensure our main building continues to serve generations of students for years to come.”
