HORTON-in-Ribblesdale Parish Council has been thanked by Burnley Caving Club for providing a new bench at the Pinfold area of the village.

The bench is a replacement of one put near the bus stop in 1976 by the caving club as a gift to the community. The seat was dedicated to the memory of Trevor Rambadt, a founder member of the club who died suddenly aged 47 in 1975.

It bore the inscription: “I came to the hills and the hills welcomed me”.

This inscription was added to a replacement seat in 2004 and has been retained in a position behind the latest seat provided by the parish council last month.

Burnley Caving Club members attended the dedication along with parish council chairman Martin Hanson, who told them them the hills ‘would always welcome them’.
