A MEETING will show how community groups have been investigating the area’s changing uplands alongside professionals armed with the latest technology.

Those attending will hear how cavers have explored the biological and climatic history of the Dales deep undergound.

Speakers from Historic England and the universities of York and Bradford will show how aerial reconnaissance and state-of-the-art survey techniques are revealing the impact that our ancestors had on their upland surroundings. Recent projects have gathered new evidence that has overturned some long-held interpretations.

Game-changing discoveries are not restricted to professional specialists and the meeting will hear how anyone can join in and make a contribution. Community groups from Swaledale and Teesdale will present their latest findings that add significant details to the picture of constant change in the northern uplands. Poster displays will include reports on projects in Wharfedale, Ribblesdale and Lunesdale.

The meeting will be held in the Devonshire Institute, Grassington, on Saturday October 26, from 10am to 4pm, and tickets cost £15.

A booking form can be downloaded from the Yorkshire Dales Landscape Research Trust website at ydlrt.co.uk or by emailing info@ydlrt.co.uk.
