SIR - I have read in your paper and recently received a letter from Barclays informing me that I will no longer be able to withdraw cash from a Post Office. Mine is Slaidburn. This is yet another attack on those of us who live in rural Britain. Recently, we in Slaidburn have had the threat of losing our Health Centre averted. Now we face a battle with big business over losing another rural amenity of which we have precious few. After January 2020 Barclays’ customers will have to go to Clitheroe to withdraw cash. There’s now no bus service to Clitheroe from Slaidburn, so how folks without use of a car will cope, I don’t know. Perhaps they will change to a Post Office account or another bank, if they can find a branch that is still open.
I have written to Barclays, our MP, Nigel Evans and the Theresa Villiers, the Secretary of State for Rural Affairs encouraging them to do all they can to stop this attack on rural life. I hope those of your Barclays’ readers who withdraw cash at their local Post Office will do so too.
